150 Million Smart Meters are coming...
The European Union member states have committed to install digital meters in 80% of their households by 2020. The metering industry expects to roll out some 150.000.000 in the next 4 years. This picture provides an overview of the country-by-country breakdown in the European Union. Whereby the red bar represents the total volume per country, the blue bar the already implemented digital meters, and the amber bar the confirmed (ordered and planned) roll out of the digital meter. |
What consumers expect from their Smart Meter...
Appropriate Level of Detail We believe consumers are not interested in their energy consumption on an aggregated level Examples such as energy use today, now, yesterday, last year... We believe consumers are interested to know where there bought energy is going; what device uses it. Consumers are going to continue to buy energy and it is an important source to making sure to use their appliances. Virtually this is nicely presented by Stanford University, California and in the below "SIMS" world translation of what and how sound detail level information can lead to strong engagement with a broad community. Example of virtualization in a SIMS environment to attract customers' attention on energy consumption per appliance

What utilities can expect from their Consumers...
Engaged Consumer make happy Customers! We think consumers take pride in their accomplishments and want to share this with their friends. Only the greeniant tool provides this: a strong and broad source to present and share relevant and inspiring information with friends and family online. Information on savings achievements, cost and environment improvements. Greeniant conveniently integrates with Social Media to show what is bought and why, what is saved and how. And what good you did for the environment by doing so! Engagement is vital to support the (global) roll out of the digital meter; there MUST be a strong benefit for the consumer to accept and adopt the digital meter and Greeniant provides just that! The Dutch Government's proposition is that consumers will be appealed by an aggregated level information board, fitted to a wall. Apologies for the video being in dutch only, the story simply explains how the roll-out of the meter is done, what the timelines are (450.000 in two years to come) and what the benefit for the consumer is (the fitted display with the aggregated information).
